Question please

Would someone be kind enough to explain the times used when running models for the tropics. I thought it was like military time but its not. Example being the 12Z, 16Z and so on. This would make reading the maps and posts alot easier. I want to learn and already have learned alot just by reading, and a little common sense. But this one has me a little stumped. Thanks. :22:

Models reference UTC (Zulu) time. For your location subtract 4 hours to get Eastern daylight time.
