Neat stat, but you're unfairly comparing North Hemispheric storms to their Southern counterpart.

The SHEM season begins July 1st, for stat purposes.

If you look at the 05-06 season, both the SIO and SPAC are at 0. If you look at the 04-05 season...

SIO had 20 TCs, 16 NSs.
SPAC had 16 TCs, 10 NSs.

The last one they did pick up on wasn't by the JMA so the number of the systems will be out next time they both upgrade one.

Right... good call. Officially there are only 19 TCs in the WPAC. 20W, as warned by the JTWC, wasn't upgraded by the JMA -- who are the official mets for the WPAC.

Sorry, the stats I had (Unysis) broke it down into 2004, 2005 and 2006 seperately, and didn't combine seasons. I did realize that a new season had started, but I couldn't find the stats since July, probably because there haven't been any storms. I'll go look around the WMO site to find a better breakdown. I'll update it to reflect that. Thanks, senorpeper.

I did realize that a new season had started, but I couldn't find the stats since July, probably because there haven't been any storms. I'll go look around the WMO site to find a better breakdown. I'll update it to reflect that. Thanks, senorpeper.

It doesn't. The WPAC season is year-round.

No, that was early 2004.

Like all basins. In the Northern Hemisphere they begin the count on January 1st, 0Z (31 Dec, 7pm EST). In the Southern Hemisphere, they being the count on July 1st, 0Z (30 Jun, 8pm EDT).

Wouldn't Jova and Kenneth be Central Pacific systems as well?

The stats are for storms that ORIGINATE in the individual basins. Jova and Kenneth originated in EPAC and therefore are counted there.
