#1 Postby sweetpea » Sun Oct 23, 2005 5:31 pm

Thought maybe we should have a thread for just tornado warnings. Post them here so that members can get it quick without digging. MODS if you don't agree please delete. Debbie

The storm in Okeechobee County has a strong area of cyclonic (tornadic) rotation, and a hook echo on Base Reflectivity. This is a very serious situation! A tornado is on the ground!

If it holds together.. moving at 10 mph.. that would be a warning for around Kissimmee/St cloud later tonight, correct..?

The cell of concern at this time will be moving into Indian River County shortly. A warning is imminent there.

Hubby's grandmother lives in Poinciana, she didn't want to leave because she just got hurricane shutters up. Unfortunately they don't stop tornados' . :( Debbie

urgent - immediate broadcast requested
Tornado Watch number 836
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
340 PM EDT sun Oct 23 2005

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a
Tornado Watch for portions of

Southern and central Florida
coastal waters

Effective this Sunday afternoon and Monday morning from 340 PM
until 100 am EDT.

Tornadoes... hail to 0.5 inch in diameter... thunderstorm wind gusts
to 70 mph... and dangerous lightning are possible in these areas.

The Tornado Watch area is approximately along and 145 statute
miles either side of a line from 45 miles southeast of Avon Park
Florida to 55 miles west southwest of fort Meyers Florida. For a
complete depiction of the watch see the associated watch outline
update (wous64 kwns wou6).

Remember... a Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for
tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening
weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
warnings.

Discussion... threat appears to be increasing attm for minisupercells
with tornadoes as outermost confluence bands associated with hrcn
Wilma approach eyw. Threat may also increase this evening for low
level rotation in isolated storms now forming in heated environment
over srn parts of the FL peninsula... where low level shear likely
will substantially increase.

An additional watch likely will be required later this evening to
cover E cntrl FL... and to extend watch coverage into later Monday
morning across S FL.

Aviation... tornadoes and a few severe thunderstorms with hail
surface and aloft to 0.5 inch. Extreme turbulence and surface wind
gusts to 60 knots. A few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 450.
Mean storm motion vector 18045.

In this situation, with surface based instability >2000j/kg and effective shear ~50kt there is a distinct possibility that there could be some strong and long-lived tornadoes associated with some of these supercells.

TORNADO THREAT CONTINUES ACROSS MOST OF CENTRAL AND SRN FL.

WILMA CONTINUES MOVING ENEWD TOWARD SWRN FL ATTM...WHILE INDIVIDUAL
THUNDERSTORM CELLS WITHIN LOOSELY-DEFINED OUTER BANDS CONTINUE TO
SHOW ROTATION. ALONG WITH NNWWD-MOVING CELLS MOVING ACROSS THE FL
KEYS...A CLUSTER OF WEAKLY-ROTATING STORMS IS ALSO INDICATED FROM
THE TAMPA AREA EWD INTO OSCEOLA AND OKEECHOBEE COUNTIES -- INVOF
WEAK BAROCLINIC ZONE LYING W-E ACROSS THIS AREA. THREE TORNADOES
HAVE BEEN REPORTED IN THE PAST HOUR -- ONE IN HARDEE COUNTY AND TWO
IN OKEECHOBEE COUNTY...
AND THREAT SHOULD PERSIST ACROSS THIS REGION
INVOF SURFACE BOUNDARY -- WHERE ENHANCED LOW-LEVEL SHEAR/VORTICITY
EXISTS.

EXPECT OVERALL TORNADO THREAT TO INCREASE ACROSS CENTRAL AND S FL
WITH TIME...AS CENTER OF WILMA CONTINUES EASING CLOSER TO THE SWRN
FL PENINSULA.
