Why did this system make landfall in of all places Maryland? almost nothing lands there, it's just like the Eurotropics and VINCE.

A better question is how the heck Bret formed where he did, up north of Bermuda, at that time of year?

Once he spun up, the westward track makes sense.

I was stationed in Ft Jackson SC at the time and remember one of my sergeants letting me call my parents after he heard about the storm. My dad said it wasnt much here at all. A very unusual storm track though to say the least.
