Downgrading 1950

#1 Postby quandary » Wed Dec 07, 2005 11:00 pm

Is it possible that 1950 could be downgraded enough to push 2005 to the lead?

Hurricane Dog was at 160 for 3 advisories. If this was decrease to 140 along with the other two time slots with 155 and 150 max speed, we get a decrease of 2.5 ACE units on 1950.

oh 1950 stands to be significantly chopped down to size. Many of those cat 3's (with pressures of 980mb) were probably cat 3's because recon found 100KT winds at 850mb. Likely, some of thsoe are going to be dropped to 1's

Which would give 2005 easy victory in the terms of most number of Cat 3s + and most ACE, right? It is hard to argue that any of this year's storms were not Cat 3 storms except Maria and Beta. Both of those receieved respectable rankings of T5.5/5.5 from SAB too.

Derek, do you think King will remain listed as a Category 3?

Dog is also likely more closer to 140KT to 145KT as it's peak intensity, instead of 160KT.
