Tropical or Subtropical?

#1 Postby Stormsfury » Sun Jun 29, 2003 10:28 am

Bill appears more subtropical than tropical IMO, and now after looking at the NHC Discussion on T.S. Bill ... they also have the same suspicions, but since the system originated in the tropics, they're deeming it tropical ...

Thoughts?

I think it's a hybrid as well SF. I wanted to single you out today because you were one of the few people on the web seeing Bill for what it was. I was right there with you along with the ETA and ECMWF. Storm 2K is my #2 forum, as I do most of my talking at CFHC. But our ideas ran parallel since late Wed. night. You had a great handle on the storm and should be commended. I know it's only June, but I haven't seen so much -removed- around the web in a long, long time. Even some of the greats who can smell a wishcast 10 miles away were a little guilty of home-bias. But that's the nature of the beast. Most of us love tropical action, and if Bill does what I think it's going to do, every Gulf state and eventually Georgia is going to have a piece of Bill in their memory banks. It's getting pretty dark to my south, so unless something drastic happens, New Orleans and Metairie will get our fair share as well. I've got my landfall call on page 5 of the latest CFHC news @ FLHurricane so if anyone cares, you can read it there.

Unfortunately I don't have the digital camera at home or the software to download the photos even if I did. But if the Bank doesn't shut down tomorrow, maybe I can get a few shots from downtown if we see anything heavy.

Peace,

Steve

It doesn't really matter now.

Any subtropical characteristics the storm has now will be giving away to more tropical characteristics. The storm is now wrapping covention around it's center so will the strongest winds follow it.

Latest visible satellite imagery indicate thunderstorms are developing around the center, but again, the heaviest convection still is well-removed from the center, which by the way, isn't moving much at all ...

Storm looks very impressive right now... I think it is Tropical. Any subtropical characteristics it had before should be dissappearing into tropical characteristics!
