... the most major hurricane strikes in the US in one decade?
Right now the record, not surprisingly, is being held by the 1941 - 1950 decade in which 10 major hurricanes made landfall in the US. Close behind come the 1891 - 1900, 1931 - 1940, and 1951 - 1960 decades with 8 major landfalls each. Now, here are the facts for the 2001 - 2010. So far, we have had 7 major landfalls, which happened between 2004 - 2005. Still, we have 5 more years, or half a decade to go. We are expecting more ferocious seasons to come. Therefore, I think the decade in which we are living right now has a pretty good chance, unfortunately may I add, to win the title as the decade with the most major hurricane landfalls in the continental US.
