FIU: The Physics of Hurricanes - Free and open to the public

#1 Postby HURAKAN » Thu Mar 09, 2006 9:01 pm

Hi Everyone,
I would like to once again invite everyone out to our
public talks, this time one dealing with Hurricanes,
how they form, what they are physically, and the possibilities
of afecting their strength or path. This talk will be at
a public lecture level, you don't have to be a physicist, and
this topic is very important to us Floridians! This follows
on the heels of our fantastic talk about hurricanes last
Friday by Chris Landsea. As always, the talks are free, open
to the public and will feature viewing with the FIU telescopes afterward if the weather allows.
See you there!!!!

"The Physics of Hurricanes and Prospects for Their Control"
Dr. Misak Sargsian
FIU Physicist,
March 10, 2006,
in CP 145 at 8:00 pm.

Observing afterward if weather permits.
Dr. James R. Webb
Professor of Physics
Director, SARA Observatory

How was the lecture? I would've gone with my two budding weather buffs, but I didn't see this thread until today :(

It wasn't as good as the first one. The FIU professor just explained what were the physics of a hurricane and ways proposed to destroy them from the an atomic bomb to cool the surface of the ocean. Nothing new and nothing that we don't know already.

I'm sorry to hear that, but hopefully they'll do more lectures to keep the discourse on hurricane formation and activity open to the general public :)
