The thing the NHC is banking on is a high behind the trough.

If you take that link and click on the 3hr or 12 hr loop you'll see the high spinning behind the trough.

The BAMM, BAMD, LBAR, A98E want to bring Claudette farther northward towards Texas or Louisiana. This is not out of the question, but the mid latitude trough to the north is forecast to lift out of the area before Claudette would be recurved. Guidance suggests some northerly flow over the northern Gulf in the wake of the trough, with the mid/upper level ridge possibly building eastward into Texas. I believe it has been taking a track to the left of the NHC forecast track recently.

Don't Count on it
Don't count on a northward track unless Claudette gets MUCH stronger, and even then, low to mid level flow on the Louisiana coast is forecast to be from the N-NE by Sunday - not conducive to northward movement in that direction. A weak storm isn't steered by upper-level winds, look down at 10,000 ft or lower for steering-level winds. Those winds say W-WNW.

Has ANY forecaster really gotten this system right? I think there's probably blood all over the ball field...

The weather in minimal Cat1's/2's is usually east of the center isn't it? That means Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida too.
I oughta start a poll: Do you think Claudette will hit Honduras?
