Awaiting Media Hype in Houston

#1 Postby KatDaddy » Wed Aug 02, 2006 5:23 am

Looks like the media hype will set in this weekend for the Houston-Galveston Areas. A hurricane in the SE GOM headed WNW will cause great concern after Katrina and Rita. I know Chris is very far away from TX but it may not be too early to think about possble preparations as early as this weekend. I am I paranoid.........after Rita's experience its never to early to start preparing should a threat look possible for our area.

Right now the focus should and will be on S. Florida and especially the Keys if Chris continues to ramp up.

Still around a week out before Chris would even be a threat to Texas, IF he did head this way...

It's gonna be a slow painfull wait for TX and LA. Chris has a long ways to go. Well over a week. Everybody is jumping on the hurricane media.. Heck they are probably going 24/7 coverage in Montana already..lol

Well, if that track doesn't shift further south, I've heard reports of evacuations of FEMA trailers will probably begin late this weekend in SELA. If nothing changes, we're going to have Geraldo, Oprah, and even Elvis might show up.

I'm getting that "sick" feeling again ... the one I get when a major hurricane enters the Gulf and our state's EOC is activated, meaning folks like me start working round-the-clock shifts ... ugh.

The poor folks who have not recovered from Rita yet cannot take another hit ... but I don't need to tell those of you in SE Texas that!

actually, no one in the entire gulf coast can really take another hit.
The whole coast has been devastated in the last few years.

Ain't it the truth ...

And if this thing does go through the straits like Rita did, I think it'll be a major in the Gulf. It's looking real unlikely that it goes far enough south to be disrupted by Hispaniola or Cuba - so the best scenario for you guys is probably the bad one for us - a SFL hit.

It is funny how quickly things could change. I had an eerie feeling that the minute I would return home from my Gatlinburg, Tennessee vacation all eyes would be on a possible GOM storm. Chris formed the day I got home from my vacation.

Agreed ... and a good point well taken!

Actually, the area from Houston to Brownsville is the only area of the Gulf Coast that has not suffered dramatically in the last few years during hurricane season. One has to wonder when their time is "up."

What about last year's evacuation? We suffered in a way that was unique from those who were hit. Sure, we were lucky and we didn't "suffer" as much. But we were definitely affected. Trust me....

Already starting here on the local radio stations. They are telling everyone to start preparing by getting out and buying their hurricane supplies today. People around here do not do that anymore I am afraid. They will be too busy getting the heck out of here to worry about supplies, me included.

Thanks for the kind sentiments but remember that here in SW LA and SE TX most lives were spared despite the devastation from Rita. I'm still rebuilding my home and we'll do it again.

As long as lives are spared, we consider ourselves blessed indeed.
