TS warning off FL east coast right now???

#1 Postby dizzyfish » Thu Aug 03, 2006 3:05 pm

I know there is a ULL spinning around the Bahamas and is forecast to cross the state in the next couple of days. I was shocked  when I checked the weather and saw the red warning posted off the east coast a few minutes ago (3:45pm 8/3/06). I know they had marine TS warnings up yesterday due to Chris but they took those down. Why did they repost them again? Is it because of the ULL - just to warn mariners?

Anybody want to venture a guess?

No...the forecasts like that are done in big blocks, so while a portion of that is under a TS warning, the whole block still gets colored in... http://www.nws.noaa.gov/ if you look there you can see the big block, its like a severe thunderstorm warning for a county, the whole county gets highlighted, however only a small portion of that county is actually effected, mets if I'm wrong feel free to correct...

Your correct. At one point when Chris was expected to be a Hurricane it was a Hurricane warning. I thought they were questioning why it was still around because even if chris is still a TS it's effects regional wise will be limited.

If you read the text, it says "TROPICAL STORM WARNING FROM 20N TO 23N FROM 66W TO 69W". That's right where Chris is. They don't mean the whole area is under the warning, but that some of the "Southwestern Atlantic Waters" are under the warning.

It was there yesterday. Gone this morning, and now it's back. That's why I was wondering hmmmm... why is it back?

Guess they didn't update something this go round.

Thanks for the response! Didn't mean to alarm anyone. Sorry if I did!

That's correct - it's part of the High Seas Forecast area of responsibility...

Its right next to the green "short term forecast" right? Would be more for off shore in the southern the bahamas.
