Ernesto May Fade Away

#1 Postby Downdraft » Sun Aug 27, 2006 11:15 pm

As pointed out by NEXRAD in the analysis forum it does appear that Ernesto may be dissipating very slowly. The upper level low over the Yucatan has now cut off the inflow moisture from the Pacific that was feeding into Ernesto and dry air over the Florida straights is entraining into the system. These two coupled with land interaction may be more than Ernesto can take prior to the mountains of Cuba offering a knock out punch. He may survive but I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't.

The interaction with Haiti was just too much for Ernesto.

Check the Navy WAM model (Wave Action Model). Has a slide through the slot between Cuba and Haiti and then a run up FL east coast all the way to Hatteras.

Satelite is backing that notion up right about now.

yeah I'm already looking out in the central atlantic a good wave, kinda low in latitude though around 7N-34W Which is around the same area that Ernesto started to form a little bit I believe.

Also some good waves getting ready to get off the coast of africa.

Few hurricanes seem to escape the ravages of Hispaniola (though wasn't a dierct hit) interesting to see how this one pans out. Jim saw your prediction on UKweatherworld early today - Ernesto has sure been a weird storm to track...

If Ernesto degenerates, the conditions are very much ripe for reorganization and redevelopment...I'd still be watching the system.

i'm pretty sure we have already seen the worst of Ernesto. Very unlikely he will regain hurricane status again... not after the Cuba mountains

Since the elevation is fairly important, it should be pointed out that those mountains on Cuba's SE tip are the highest in the country. They're definitely not rolling hills. Ernesto is going to pass over/near 6,000 ft. mountains.
