Wayyyyyyy to early to even think about potential landfall yet. Unless you are talking about the islands.

I was speculating on the forecasts that will start popping up on here over the next several days. That's not my forecast, but I'm sure Florida will be included in someone's discussion very soon.

hey what about New England??? I think a direct hit on Long Island is likely with this one!

In all seriousness, I applaud anyone who puts out their own forecasts. It takes guts to say a storm will do something and have mother nature respond with "hmmm, dont think so."

I agree. One has to try. If you never make any mistakes (goes for everyone) how can you ever learn?

The following post is NOT an official forecast and should not be used as such. It is just the opinion of the poster and may or may not be backed by sound meteorological data. It is NOT endorsed by any professional institution including storm2k.org For Official Information please refer to the NHC and NWS products.

For this forecast, TD8 has been upgraded to a Tropical Storm, but for now, we are calling it "Eight" instead of "Helen"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tropical Storm 8 Moving Westward.

Tropical Depression 8 Strengthens into a Tropical Storm, the 8th of the season so far.

Everywhere from the Lesser Antilles, Caribbean, Bermuda, and the SE USA should be watching this storm.

TS8 is still moving west at a slightly faster 20 MPH now. This is expected to continue for another 36 hours, with a slight movement to the WNW.

The latest model runs have been showing a recurve after 5 days now. However, I think that it is too early to start thinking about a recurve. After Gordon approaches the 35N line, the weakened subtropical ridge should begin to restrengthen. This should allow a more westward movement than the models indicate. However, anything can still happen with this system.

TS8 has become much more organized since 11:00AM EDT. For this, we have upgraded the Depression into a 40 MPH storm. The pressure is now estimated to be at 1007 MB.

Our cone is very concentrated for the first 3-4 days, and it expands a little on days 4-5. We take TS8 on a very limited WSW-WNW track on the first 3 days. However, no days 4-5, we climate the possibility for WSW movement, and the storm can even begin moving NW by then. Our cone is a little more south than the models, because of the fact that the models are not that reliable after 5 days, but with a weak TS, there is a little more uncertainty.

I like how you, like me, avoided using the word Helene until 08L.Helene appears. After all, if it fizzles (not likely), we avoid having "jumped the gun" on the name and only used appearances for the strength.
