Cool Front to Clear Northern Gulf Coast at Mid-WeeK

#1 Postby Berwick Bay » Sun May 13, 2007 6:03 pm

Will probably be the last taste of spring. More of a switch to dry air than any substantial cooling. But we'll take it. After that, well, the early part of the hurricane season looms, with climatology telling us to focus on the southern Gulf of Mexico and perhaps the northwest Caribbean for development in very late May on into June. Take care.

Hey Berwick Bay welcome aboard. There are many of us that have been out here with the tropics for 10 years and more. 2005 was a baseline of extreme I hope to never see in my lifetime. 2005 and 1933 were of the same extreme.

The "cool front" came through during swim practice this afternoon... The temperature dropped fairly quickly after that. With an unheated pool, that was NO FUN!

Thanks Kat Daddy. Its good to be here. You're right about '05 being extreme. I agree that it will be unusual to see another year with so many storms. What concerns me though is that we have had quite a few years in the past where two and three major hurricanes have struck the coast in a single year. I think that there's a good chance that '07 may be one of those kinds of years. Also, when you think about the strength of these storms in recent years. Remember, we're not just talking about '05 here. Isabel in the Atlantic (03??)and Ivan in the Gulf (04) both reached Cat 5 status before making landfall. So there is a very real chance that we may see Cat 5 storms off our coast again this year.
