south Florida and hurricanes

#1 Postby kba981 » Wed May 16, 2007 9:37 pm

first off I want to say I HATE HURRICANES. been through Andrew Francis Jeanne and Wilma. Florida doesn't need anymore. depressions yes ( need the rain ) I know be careful what ya wish for. some people are saying were are in trouble this year some say different. with the current weather pattern Florida looks OK IMO. but this can change fast. what do you guys think? I personally think me may have some trouble but my gut says the gulf this year. any thought.

The west coast of Fla is in the Gulf....Of course,if doesn't include Miami,so no one really cares about undeveloped areas of the state... :D

I agree with you about the northern Gulf Coast. Its why I said earlier that New Iberia, La. and Pascagoula, Miss. were likely to be very near landfall locations of important hurricanes this year.

TRACKS

#4 Postby HURRICANELONNY » Thu May 17, 2007 7:16 am

I think it will be more like the 90's. More storms curving away with some hitting the carolinas to maine. More long trackers another words a cape verde season. I don't see Florida getting hit this year. Unless it's late in the season and does a Wilma.

Hey now I wouldn't call over 3 million ppl undeveloped. If a storm ever did what charley was predicted to do it would have affected at least 4 million people total. I don't think that's developed and tampa I believe is number 18 or 19 as highest populated cities in america :) And i'm one of those ppl! :)

Well, if you're correct about New Iberia....AND it's a slow moving major hurricane, there goes the rest of us in SELA.

All we can do is prepare for the worst and pray for the best.......................whether you are on the gulf coast, penninsula, island or east coast. We all gather here to stay ahead of the problems the best way we know how with the help of some great pro mets. As long as lives are saved then the rest can be repaired and rebuilt. Don't feel bad, we all experience this terrible "what if and who's next" anxiety as hurricane season approaches each year with what seems to be a vengence each year.

Use these anxious times to become better prepared and organized so that any effects will be minimized. I'm working on my inventory now, as I never want to have to remember every single item in my home again, when it was purchased, where it was purchased, how much was paid for the item , a picture of the item, a copy of the receipt for that item and how much it will cost to replace the item again. This task has been the neverending nightmare from Rita and I'm still going through it. God willing and alot of caffiene I will have this new inventory completed and should anything happen again then all I'll have to do is take the damage photos and it's over. I won't have to keep viewing the damage day in and day out deciphering what's what and detailing each and every item I possessed that comes to mind. This has been a horrible heavy weight on my shoulders.

I second that. Have you ever looked at pinellas county? 97% of the county is developed with only a few parks. Houses, townhouses, and condoes going up all over the place. St. Petersburg is not far behind Tampa and from what I have heard is growing faster than Tampa.

It is way too early to predict anything about landfalls...but if we get a
ridging pattern Florida may see storms...but then again it is too
early to tell
