Do you favor proposed change of name for Hurricane Center?

#1 Postby cycloneye » Thu May 17, 2007 7:59 am

According to an articule published by the Miami Herald the new director of the National Hurricane Center Bill Proenza is not happy with a proposed change from National Hurricane Center to NOAA Hurricane Center.Read the articule below for details:

http://www.miamiherald.com/548/story/109372.html

I dont favor any change.Leave it as we know it for many, many, many years,National Hurricane Center.

I agree. Leave it be and use the money earmarked for the name change to fund the forecasters.

I say leave it the way it is. What is the point of a change?

All I've got to say is GO BILL, GO. Keep the name, and don't let NOAA get up in your cornflakes.

Now is not the time to start screwing around with the public over name changes and such. Couldn't they have started this argument in November and not wait until 2 weeks before hurricane season? It does nothing more than make people lose confidence in them as a whole when crap like this becomes public. JMHO

Agreed.I dont know why they have to go public with all this infight that is going on there. They serve the public much better keeping internal things wrapped inside and not go to the open mirror.I think that the private firms such as (Accuweather) and others see this as their opportunity to gain more favor from the public.

They should leave it as is. The NHC is a badly needed branch of Noaa.

The voting so far is overwelming for the no option. However,it doesn't matter if the poll is almost unanimous for an option, those who haved not voted yet let your feelings known by voting. If you want to type an opinion about this theme, you can also do so in this thread.

That would be a HUGE waste of money.

Good job by Max Mayfield and Bill Proenza of refusing to take the NWS logo off!! That is rediculous on NOAA's part!

Leave it be.

This is just NOAA trying to glorify themselves.

It'll still be RSMC Miami to me even if they do change that part of the name.

Why why why do Americans love change without checking reality so much? I don't mean the regular John Smith, I mean the Powers That Be. Let's change to New Math!!! Five years later...oops, bad mistake, our kids can't add! Let's change to <name that trend>. Oops! The old one was working and this one doesn't, too bad we spent 10 million on it!
Change for the sake of change, or for political fortunes (which WILL change) giving no forethought to 10 or 20 years down the road...it seems like something hardwired into the American genetic code. I'm not a Luddite, but there is something to be said for appreciating history and its impact on the present and future. But hey, that's just me 8-)
Oops! Forgot to say...leave it. Everyone knows what National Hurricane Center means...but, though it may stun some weather watching addicts...many don't know NOAA from a...uh....never mind.

The proposed name change is a waste of time and money.
Keep it as the NHC and let the money be spent on researching
hurricanes.
