Yesterday, I began to feel that next week may be a time for development in the area of the west tip of Cuba. I defined this area as SW of Key West, at the entrance to the southern Gulf. I may be splitting hairs, but I think that depression formation is actually more likey just north of the tip of Cuba and in the Gulf of Mexico itself. I believe that shear in this area will relax some over the next couple of days, and then markedly so after that, creating an upper level environment which could support storm formation. I'm also becoming more convinced that the storms on both sides of the Central American Isthmus will migrate northward toward the NW Carribean and eventually the Southern Gulf. If I'm right, a depression could form in the extreme southern Gulf (SW of Key West) in 7-10 days.
