Moist Air From Gulf Beginning to Reach Fl Penninsula

#1 Postby Berwick Bay » Mon May 28, 2007 4:29 am

High Pressure Ridge continues to "retreat" toward the Atlantic. Boundary of moist air from Gulf is now reaching the west coast of Fl. Hopefully, we will see afternoon showers result from the daytime heating, and as time goes on, perhaps a little more than that for our friends in the sunshine state.

Winds shifting towards the south here. The ridge is on the retreat, finally.

Yeah, the ridge is backing off slowly, but we're still under it here in Miami.

This is certainly not to alarm anyone in any way, but a local met mentioned this evening that this moisture moving into the GOM may form something "tropical" and move into Florida. Anyone else seeing this or hearing about this? I'm all for Florida getting the much needed rainfall, but I'm going to be in Florida all of next week and I just want to stay on top of things and be prepared if need be. Could this set up to become something to be concerned about or is it just going to stay a hunk of rain like what we're getting here in South LA.? Comments?

Development of a non-tropical low can't be ruled out at the present time but in all honesty the affects will be the same with tropical rains spreading threw florida in the friday-saturday time frame with things tapering off by sunday afternoon.

You're definitely right about the shear, Rich. But I'll stay with my call. I'll be honest with you though. I haven't spent near the time looking at sites and trends in the tropics. Storm 2k has been down, and without that vehicle for exchange, I sort of let things go. But I'm ready to renew my energies now. Take care Rich.

For the past week or two we have had smoke from the Florida fires blowing in off the gulf into Mobile. North winds are forecasted for this Saturday in response to the lp area.
Shear is too great over the lp area to allow significant developement of the system but I'm sure any associated rain will be welcomed by Florida folk.
