guess how much rain contest (for a good cause drought relief

#1 Postby cpdaman » Thu May 31, 2007 4:32 pm

i know people on here must like to have fun with the weather and i would like to have a "contest" for fun to see who can predict the amount of RAIN that florida will get to help ease the DROUGHT

here are 7 cities guess how much rain they will get from the following storm (add up each total error per city by comparing your estimates with actual total for all cities and see who has the lowest number) or error ( can be higher or lower) to be determined after system passes us by starting ? tonite at midnite or tomorrow morning

Wanna play

i.e 1 KEY WEST
2 MIAMI
3 WEST PALM BEACH
4 TAMPA
5 ORLANDO
6 JACKSONVILLE
7 MELBOURNE

if i were to guess i would say 4 inches KW , 2 inches MIA, 2.5 WPB, TAMPA 1 inch, ORL 1.5 inches, JAC .5 inch, 2 inches MELB

i.e 1 KEY WEST- Starting later tonight the heaviest stuff- 8 inches
2 MIAMI- 7 inches
3 WEST PALM BEACH- 6 inches
4 TAMPA- 6 inches
5 ORLANDO- 6 inches
6 JACKSONVILLE- 5 inches
7 MELBOURNE- 6 inches

A very large area of rain will cover the state
and could bring torrential flooding rains over
nearly all of Florida, with the
Heaviest Rain over South Florida, including
Lake Ockeechobee, Miami, Key West,
and Naples, and the Everglades...
which could each see between
5-8 inches of rain given the large
area and prolonged duration of rain
from Friday until Sunday.

ok we have 13 people

lets say final tallies (including any revisions in by 2 pm) and yes i know it's just a silly rain guessing game but there have to be some guidelines

this WILL put a dent in the drought lower mid levels of the atmosphere are moistening (altough it took a while) and the rain is heading in . YEA!

Well throw all the predictions out the window with the bath water because West Palm Beach has already had 2 inches by 11pm. Now that it is tropical storm Barry I would like to up all the estimates I made by at least 2 to 3 inches. It is going to be a wet weekend. YEAH
