As of 4:25, it appears that the center is about halfway under the blowup of convection with a new area right over the the circulation.

AT 5 PM EDT...2100 UTC... A TROPICAL STORM WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED
FOR THE WEST COAST OF FLORIDA FROM BONITA BEACH NORTHWARD TO KEATON
BEACH...AND A TROPICAL STORM WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED FROM NORTH OF
KEATON BEACH TO ST. MARKS. A TROPICAL STORM WARNING MEANS THAT
TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED WITHIN THE WARNING AREA
WITHIN THE NEXT 24 HOURS AND A TROPICAL STORM WATCH MEANS THAT
TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE WITHIN THE WATCH
AREA...GENERALLY WITHIN 36 HOURS.

What's the earliest a second tropical system has formed in the year in the Atlantic? Does Barry break this record?

Hi Barry!

You know, funny thing. I told Barry he had to wait until June to develop. I guess he did.

This is among the few times that we have seen two tropical storms by June 1. Only two years (1887 and 1908) featured two tropical cyclones that formed by June 1. This is impressive. In addition, it puts 2007 on a current pace with 2005, 1933, and other above average years.

Hopefully Barry will help put out many wildfires in the SE and provide at least some drought relief for the Southeast.

Barry now has a new blossom of intense convection right over the center. It appears to be getting better organized IMO.

NHC has it inland in 24 hours so I don't think it'll strengthen much. They bring it to 45 lt, 50 mph. Of course intensity is the toughest thing to forecast, but I think rain will by far be the big story from this.
