Hurricanes strike outside of the northern Gulf coast too. Wonder why they don't spread it out a little. :D The rest of Florida, the mid-atlantic and Texas don't count anymore?

I'll have to find him that day. I met him during TS Arlene at the beach.

I saw Cantori yesterday evening in Waveland. He was interviewing the mayor of Waveland. I stopped the car and rolled down the window and told Cantori that he wasn't welcome back in Mississippi the rest of hurricane season. The mayor agreed and Cantori just smiled and shrugged....MGC

Will be there a warrant issued for arrest and sent back to the Weather Channel's HQ, if Jim show his face again in Mississippi?

In the past 40 years... There has been a 120 mile strech of the US coast that has
by far taken more big direct hits than any other. 5 majors and a cat 2. It's not Florida.
This 120 mile strech is actualy on par with the entire Fla coast (well over 500 miles).
It's the Mississippi Alabama coast. Waveland to Orange Beach.
I may be mistaken, but I belive there is no 120 mile strech anywhere else in the Con.
US that has seen a landfall count like this in the past 100 years. And this all happened
in 40. Yikes.
I would venture to guess that a vast majority of the genral public would guess
SE Fla... and thier last guess would be MS-AL coast.

40 years?
1967 to 2007 for Coastal NC:
Hurricane Ginger (1971) : Category 1
Hurricane Diana (1984) : Category 2
Hurricane Gloria (1985) : Category 2?
Hurricane Charley (1986) : Unknown
Hurricane Emily (1993) : Category 3
Hurricane Bertha (1996) : Category 2
Hurricane Fran (1996) : Category 3
Hurricane Bonnie (1998) : Category 2
Hurricane Dennis (1999) : Tropical Storm*
Hurricane Floyd (1999) : Category 2**
* - Led to Floyd's flooding, thus was included, though it does not count toward the numbers.
** - NCDOT reported that, at the peak of Floyd's flooding, 1,400 raods were impassible.
Source for 1967 thru 1999: "North Carolina's Hurricane History"

Hurricane Isabel (2003) : Category 2
Hurricane Alex (2004) : Category 2
Hurricane Ophelia (2005) : Category 1
Source for 2000 thru 2007: "Weather Underground"

Sorry if I missed any, and I'm fairly sure the categories are accurate. While most do not consider those "big hits"...I can guarentee you anyone who lives around here and knows about them will beg to differ. BTW, totals:
Major: 2
Category 2: 7

He going to be at my house tomorrow morning... his producer called me today and said they were going to start setting up for the live feed at 5:00 am... I would imagine he'll probably do something off my porch, then something from the neighborhood, and finish up from the seawall... my best guess for what its worth... don't think I'll get up early and get him some KK donuts either, not with them coming at 5:00....

Cantore

#19 Postby Frank P » Mon Jun 04, 2007 10:23 am

Jim Cantore is just one cool guy.. he is the same in person as on camera... he treats you like you've been his close friend for years... having the WC crew, Jim and his producer Michelle was a very neat experience... also got the tee shirt and hat to boot....

FYI all

Jim will not be broadcasting live any more for the rest of the week. This was his last broadcast for this week as he has to take care of some personal business back at home...

Good for you - shirt and hat too!

I'll bet he was impressed with what you have done with your home.

Glad you had a fun experience!!!
