Bad Moon
Something is amiss.
Clear comfortable afternoons
The air light and pleasant.
From Rhode Island I met her,
Loving Louisiana, loving friendly people,
Loving the pool in which she swam,
And most of all loving that perfectly
Spring-like afternoon in June.
June!
Certainly not too unlike
Summer in New England.
Something is amiss.
That evening, like the evening before,
Lightning and showers, suddenly upon us
Then gone. Quickly, racing,
As if coming from one world, and rushing to another.
They cannot have come from this one.
Not from that pleasant, peaceful,
Afternoon at the pool.
From where did they get their energy and brilliance?
And the same again next day!
They are upon us from nowhere.
But now we cower and hide ourselves from them,
And ask the rocks to cover us or fall upon us.
Frightening and eerie, they strike at us.
Later in the evening there is thunder
For the better part of the night.
Something is amiss.
I cannot speak of this to many.
A bad moon?
Who would listen?
Later they might remember
But it will be too late then.
But perhaps there are those listening,
Alert to creation
Something stirs within them
And they fly, or swim, or crawl,
To safer climes.
Something is amiss.
I fear for our people.
What hath God wrought?
Bad Moon

Fact, you also said some nice things, and made some really pertinent observations I might add, about my last poem "Crystal Ball". I want to say a special thanks to you.
you're welcome

Thank you very much Windy City. I think I mentioned one time earlier, that the poems which I have posted are the only poems that I can ever recall writing! I'm not a young man. Back in school, we weren't encouraged to write poems. We spent more time working on grammar skills. Listen, I actually like them myself. And more than that, I like writing them. I've written four (all dealing with weather). I've E-Mailed them to a schoolteacher friend of mine. She seems to like them So I'm going to keep on writing them. Now I intend for the poems to be more than just pretty words. For instance "Crystal Ball" has real meaning for me. I describes just how I see and interpret tropical weather. Yes, I know something about tropical history and trends, its true. But if you read "Crystal Ball" you'll see what else goes into the making of my forecast. Perhaps I'm speaking about them too much. I don't want to do that. They should be able to stand with meaning on their own, without commentary. One last note. My fourth poem, "Bad Moon" written very recently. Its got clues in it, which no one has yet mentioned or asked me about. I'm going to let it stand on its own for now. But its possible that this poem may take on new meaning as we progress through the tropical season. I'll talk about that later. Thank you again, Windy City.
