Tropical Weather Outlook
Statement as of 10:30 PM EDT on July 30, 2003
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico...
A strong tropical wave over the far eastern Atlantic about 650 miles
southwest of the southern Cape Verde Islands is moving westward at
20 to 25 mph. Satellite imagery indicates this system continues to
slowly become better organized...and conditions appear favorable
for a tropical depression to form during the next 24 hours.
Cloudiness and showers just east and northeast of the Bahamas have
diminished.
Elsewhere...tropical storm formation is not expected through
Friday.

Lookiing at the system on the floater tells me we definitely have TD#8 on our hands as of 11 pm this evening, even if it isn't "officially called". When that convection on the W side wraps it will become TS Ericka soon after. We may actually have a jump to TS status if the convection wraps overnight. Getting more and more interesting with every peek at the sat loops!!!
