South Florida Gathering

#1 Postby rjgator » Wed Jun 13, 2007 10:59 pm

I was curious if anyone wanted to get together on night after work in the Boca, Fort Lauderdale area to get to know each other. I know several people have been chatting in here since it was the Storm 97 in the Palm Beach Post and that we have planned a few gatherings in the past that did not have a big turnout. PM me if you are interested. My partner has a restaurant in FTL that we could go to and get to know one another before another active season starts and none of us have any time. Respond here if you are interested. I was thinking the second weekend in July.

I know we have tried in the past and only had a small turn out but maybe free or nearly free food may help. I would talk to her and mayne we could donate the proceeds to S2K for all of the hard work they have done for all of us in the past.

I'm up for it if we can get people to attend. We had low turnouts in the past, but we had a good time. Its hard to get people to these gatherings so I personally don't try anymore. I'll put in for it when we have a set date.

Hubby & I are in FLL occasionally. Keep me posted on the date y'all set up, and I'll see if we're up there that weekend.

P.S: RJ - which restaurant and what kind of food? We're always on the hunt for new (to us) restaurants to try when we're up there b/c we certainly don't have much here in Homestead LOL :)

LOL - yeah but we still would have to drive home from those...when we're in FLL, we're able to cab it to most places so we can enjoy a few drinks :) Plus, when you're just wanting to run out for a bite to eat, you don't want to drive 20+ minutes (depending on traffic) after working when you have to work the next day, etc.....we eat out up there plenty, just enjoy the change of scenery in Lauderdale 8-)

Y'all should consider coming down to the Keys some time. Be fun to meeting the south Florida storm2kmans. No shortage of restaurants, clubs and diversions here. You can also see the hurricane monument just down the road in Islamorada.
It's 50 miles from the Kendall area to here.
Course, you could wind up in an early-warning visitor evacuation if we try gathering here during the season.

Heather, I beg to differ. Granted, South Dade doesn't have the ambiance of the locales further north, but the quality of food is unrivaled and I have eaten at numerous establishments down there. The best Italian and Mexican I have found is a stones throw away from Keys Gate, on Krome south of Mowry. You know the establishments. The best breakfast I have had in a long time, was at the Chuck Wagon a little further north on 1, just past Wal Mart and across the street. As far as seafood is concerned, a 30 minute drive will get you to Alabama Jacks on Card Sound, and even further to the fine eateries in Key Largo. Yeh, the glitter is not there, but the food quality is. TheShrimper.

Meeting someplace like this is a good idea. That's what made the NO get-togethers fun. Bre and I went down, played in the french quarter and met the rest of the s2kers, had a blast and then the next day meandered around the french quarter again. It made for a nice little vacation.

Psst...boca, a bump is needed only when the thread falls to the very bottom of the first page or onto other pages.

Shrimper: I knew my ears were ringing. But you got the wrong person. Wasn't I that was knocking the food in Homestead and the Keys. I know better!

EDIT: NEVERMIND, SHRIMPER. I DIDN'T KNOW THAT CANELAW WAS A HEATHER, TOO!

You know I'm always up for a party! Fort Lauderdale to West Palm....tell me where and when and I'll be there.

Last year we had a group that met several times and really had fun. Boca and SouthFloridaWx were our ringleaders...maybe we can convince SouthFloridaWx to hop back over for a weekend now that he's moved to Tampa?

Hey seriously, let's start this season off right.

Weatherwindow I told Nathan that he has to move back to S FL due to his screen name and theirs more to do down here. He actually might be coming back around late summer.

Better make that a hijacking served up for two. Don't think I could make it down to to SFL, without bringing Amanda, especially with the prospect of being able to spend a day or two down on those beautiful beaches. Yeah it may be possible that I could be coming back down, we'll see how things go in the next month as we make some decisions about schooling and such. PS... I wouldn't mind coming down to The Keys either... Would require a bit more advanced planning, but do-able.

LOL - Hubby & I have spent many a Saturday down in Key Largo & Islamorada. My step-brother lives in Islam. so we've been down there a ton over the years. We live right at Palm Drive basically, so within 30 minutes, we're at the Keys and we love every minute of it. You never have to convince me to drive that direction! LOL
