NHC Staff Video

#1 Postby Frank2 » Fri Jul 06, 2007 2:09 pm

Admin - please, if you want to integrate this with the other topic, please do, but, since it is video (not sure of it's shelf life), thought this would be interesting viewing of the staff's side of the disagreement, taped yesterday (video time is 4 minutes, 26 seconds):

http://cbs4.com/video/?id=37023@wfor.dayport.com

again, a very unfortunate situation that involves my friends and former co-workers - seeing them like this is upsetting to me, and, I'm sure, to all of us who worked with them and for them over the years...

No it's ok Frank to have this as a new thread because many would not see the video as the other thread is with many pages and might be lost by many.

I can't believe this is happening at the NHC, especially this time of the year.

Wow.. No question this is more than just the brass being ticked off.. He has clearly undermined his staff with misrespresentation and it sounds like they never did like him. He has seriously lost control and to the point where staff is genuinely and seriously ticked off and want him OUT!! No way can he continue..NO WAY. As I said before this is not all about him and his superiors. He lost his mind..running everyone over in the process. Foolish at least..

Thanks, cycloneye - well, as James said, the NHC staff is a small one, and, to them, it's not just a job but a way of life, and, as with all small groups there are going to be disagreements, especially when someone new joins the group, but, unfortunately, this is being played out in full view of the public eye...

As I told someone this afternoon - I don't like how this makes my heart feel...

Frank

P.S. Ironically, REM's "Everybody Hurts" was playing as I typed this...

WOW

Powerful attacks coming from SR NHC staff.

Franklin and Avila have me believing that Proenza is a bad manager now, based on this video report.

I still think there might be coercion of some type going on whether from someone that wants to be made the director or maybe even has been promised to be, or subtle threats that this needs to go a certain way for those wanting to continue working there. I just don't feel good about this at all. I can't see someone with his background being this undesirable. It just doesn't add up. Not to the degree this is being pushed and with the public display as well. Would any of you feel you could do that unless you are being told it is quite all right? And who would be doing such a thing? Doesn't that seem strange to anyone? JMHO for whatever it is worth.

I totally agree...

Usually government issues are all most always handled within... Why would they want to attract any negative feedback, it won't help when it comes time for the public to heed their warnings.

Proenza is being described as an impulsive leader who does not respect his staff despite their wealth of knowledge. The use of phrases like 'poisoning the atmosphere', 'dismissive of the staff', and 'not respecting the staff' are strong and being in their shoes I would not make them unless I felt something was inherently wrong and in need of serious change. I have seen this type of thing happen in many companies that I have dealt with, when there is a transfer of leadership. The outcome is usually not good and I hope that the NHC can get through this.
In this case, I agree with Franklin and Avila. Things need to radically change or Proenza should go.
This is a really sad situation.

He is out.. as unfortunate as it may be. These staff members are truely mad at him. He came into the position and turned into a bull in a china shop..

I thought it was interesting when the gentleman that was asked what types of things his face turned red and stand he starting backing down saying he would rather not discuss it. I try to read people's expressions along with listen, rsearch, etc. and why he was embarassed with that one, baffles me.

Why aquawind when he hasn't had major problems before now? True his management style may be different from what they are used to but can't see it making this much difference since he has been in management with the govt'. for a # of years unless someone was unhappy they didn't get promoted from within and thought - what a perfect opportunity! Maybe it's because they are small and all work on top of each other, I just don't know.
I am only speculating, so forgive me if I shouldn't do this, but something just stinks here to me. Maybe it's that womans intuition thing I have going on- I don't know, but to me it just doesn't feel like we are seeing everything! And if I am proven wrong I will eat crow!

He said that he would discuss the already made public debate about QuikScat. I got the impression that he did not want to go public with anymore issues than he had to. In addition, from the beginning, he said the staff went public reluctantly because they believed their concerns would not be heard by their boss at NOAA.

FYI, a feature story on this is coming up on CNN this half-hour.

Apparently, they will have Proenza's response.

Ive always known since the start of this thats its something much deeper going on at the NHC then we know.I see him gone before the end of the month...

The NHC will be fine with or without quikscat...There ability to put out great forcast will always be there in my opinion.

Dont get me wrong its a great tool but if it fails the NHC iam sure will take that extra step to continue doing a great job.Adrian

For those people to sign a petition and speak out says volumes. To say Lexion Avila is not genuine in his thoughts is not right. I have met the man he is as much a straight talker as anyone I know.

At this point I've completely reversed my opinion on this. Proenza needs to go.
