New subforums in TT - what are your opinions?
Thought this should go here.
For me, well, I'm almost afraid to say this given the work the admins have put into making this the best forum possible, but I sorta disagree with the idea of subforums. I think too many forums and subforums distracts attention away from the quieter forums, leading to a snowball effect. What happens is that some of the subforum(s) end up totally quiet.
But I'm willing to give a shot, and see how it goes. Maybe I'm wrong. And also, I think since we have an EPAC subforum and a WPAC subforum, we should also have an Indian Ocean and Southern Hemisphere subforum.

Since I don't care about those basins, I favor the change. It will leave less clutter on the board.

The Southern Hemisphere is far from one basin, more like three basins. The forum was always for tropical discussion so I can't see how non North Atlantic threads were "clutter."

It's a good idea to have them as it cleans a bit Talking Tropics forum from those basins threads..As chad said,if it doesn't work, then they will go.

I like it. I'll find it especially nice when i'm looking for a certain topic on an atlantic hurricane, i'll have less topic headings to look through. It just makes each area easier to navigate through.

If it means less posts and activity for Epac and Wpac TC's, then it's not a good idea. If it works well, then it's good.

I suppose when storms cross over from the Atlantic to the Pacific, from the EPAC to the CPAC, or from the CPAC to WPAC all of the topics related to the storm would have to be moved to one of the subforums or to another subforum. Even though this'd be rare, it could be a little annoying for some people(not me).

Almost everyone who posts here is primarily concerned with the Atlantic ocean. Almost all of those who come here for advisory information or for planning purposes will be coming here for Atlantic basin storms. Therefore the tropical enthusiasts can be bothered to click a subforum link to talk about the other basins. Seems pretty logical to me.

While I like the idea, I do see the potential of weakening the non-Atlantic threads. Usually non-Atlantic storms were limited to just one topic (as compared to an Atlantic storm that has several threads, some locked). By separating these threads to another section, traffic will probably drop significantly, much like the time when non-Atlantic tropical cyclones were kept in the Global Weather section.
Also, with a section on EPAC and WPAC, I do have to ask about the Indian Ocean and the SPAC.

I like to see how it works first until I make full judgement. On the one hand, EPAC storms have affected us and caused flooding.

Depends on the time of year really. Look at the forum in March for instance and that certainly won't be the case. It isn't as if there are ever many non N Atlantic threads running as it is. Like Senor I suspect traffic for these basins may now drop which would be a shame.
