I am in the sae boat as you are, except I just graduated, from my understanding if you can't study meteorlogy yet, then take computer courses, because that's practically what all meteorologist use is satellites and computers

I second that thought. If you're thinking you might want to continue on to grad school, then applied math or physics will prove much more useful in the long run.

I'm also in the same boat, I just got courses for my first year of college (more later), but had to turn down a met course because it was on the other end of the county. I went with the basics for this semester. Next semester, Ill likely take a met course. I'm taking earth science for the time being. Physics is in the plan. I also am taking College Algebra which opens up the door to 8 other classes when I'm done. I'm going to stay at SPC for 2-3 years then go to FSU, I hope, after 2 years. Any ideas on what my major should be, I dont think met is a major at SPC. I was told yesterday that I can get my AA degree in as little as one year on this plan
. Any advice will defiantly help.

You will need to take Calculus and differential equations as well as physics where calc is a requ. if you are seroius about a MET degree. I've taking up to Synoptic Meteorology and the calc and physics background was crucial in getting through the class.

I cannot take Calc at this point, score was two points too low for calc. Possibly in the spring, I will take Calc.

After algebra I would recommend taking pre-calc and possibly trig(pre-calc should cover enough trig) then move on to calc. I think calc is over rated on how difficult it is, but if you are not a math brain it will be a challenge.

Not the usual way to go about it, necessarily... but the military helped me out. If you are amiable, look into joining the military as a meteorologist... they may have ways of helping you out - possibly a free ride to college to get your degree in exchange for several years of military service as a meteorologist.
I personally went the enlisted route, and am currently working on my degree (and doing it for free with the military benefits).

Good luck getting contracted as a meteorologist your first time at MEPS. I wanted to be an AG(aerographer's mate) for the navy and because I was ready to go and naive I took the avionics job they offered me when I was told there is no openings for that rate. I do have the option to cross rates but my priority is getting a BS asap.

True, so very true. I went to MEPS and all they offered me was something in "Sewage", even though I qual'ed for everything. I turned it down and went to leave, when a guy came up to me and told me he wanted to job swap - he had weather. I just about kissed him. Needless to say, I signed on the dotted line that day.
