Check out the GFS 500mb loop. It has been showing a 600dm height line for some time now over the coming days- then weakens. I have to say I have never seen a 600dm line on the GFS though I might have missed one over the years. That is one large mountain of air sitting over the north Atlantic.

I thought the NHC/TPC and others had all but declared this hurricane season over and done with due to unfavorable conditions for tropical formation.

jaxfladude, why are you posting that same statement in multiple threads?
The NHC never said anything like that, and for the most part the experts are all saying this season should ramp up in the coming weeks. The number of storms this season is predicted to be at or above normal and it is anything but "over and done with". BTW, the conditions are not really that hostile. The wind shear is slowly starting to slacken and the water temperatures are warming. Also, if the models are right, conditions should only continue to improve by the end of the month. If anything, this season is starting to look like it has some real potential.
