Mobile Homes a ticking time bomb

#1 Postby caneman » Tue Jul 24, 2007 7:35 am

A little unsettling to see how many are in the Tampa Bay area. With up to 80,000 people displaced even for a minor Hurricane. And to know that pieces of metal can destroy homes up to a couple miles away is even more unsettling. If you live downwind from a mobile home park, take heed.

I saw this the other day. I have a feeling that pinellas may become a whirlwind of debris if a storm comes in.

Mobile homes have always been a concern during storms. So is everything else I've learned. I had a Texas Roadhouse sign that was sliced right through my back door and they are located almost 10 miles northeast of my house. The sign for our local technical college was found in a different parish altogether. What really bothers me right now is the number of remaining FEMA trailers and the missles those little things could become in a bad storm. It's hard to guage these things because my home is surrounded by mobile homes and the ones on my east side and directly across the street had zero damage while my wood frame home was destroyed. In a flooding situation I imagine they'd all be gone but as for the wind and tornadoes all structures are fair game.

The Largo area in pinellis county is loaded with trailer parks, most being retirement communities. That is one area I would not want to be even with a weak hurricane.
