August 16 - Fifteen Years After Andrew
A lot can happen, even in an El Nino year. 1992 also had several pre-season storms in the Atlantic and a major hurricane threatening Hawaii in the Central Pacific.

Re: August 16 - Fifteen Years After Andrew
It's hard to believe it's been 15 years since Andrew, I was right in the middle of that one, I hope I never see another storm like Andrew.

Re: August 16 - Fifteen Years After Andrew
Iniki did more than threaten HI-it clobbered Kaua'i. Andrew made landfall about 5:30 AM EDT August 24th-about 4 hours after the center of Tropical Storm Lester entered Arizona just east of Nogales. Thus we had two active Tropical Cyclones of at least TS intensity in the two southern corners of the lower 48 at about the same time-a very rare occurrence. BTW the US Territory of Guam was slamdanced by Typhoon Omar in August of 1992.
