I beg of you... if you're not using GHCC for archival purposes (only for casual browsing or saving one image), or if you're using GHCCsat (I tried it and I think it eats up a lot of the GHCC server), please, I beg of you, close GHCC for those who are archiving images (as in hour-by-hour saving of the images). Remember Rita? That was devastating, it was down for nearly 24 hr. Let's avoid that with Dean... we know that traffic will only pick up in the next few days. Thanks :)

Before I sound stupid, GHCC is slow for others too, right?

For those who are archiving, the images update between :45-:50 after the hour. Hopefully that will minimize refreshing.

RAMSDIS and SSD have much better servers, so they provide good alternatives to GHCC. So does IDV (if your computer can support it, my can not). I use GHCC b/c it is dependable to not suddenly reposition itself without warning (if you're not archiving, it doesn't matter). EDIT: And oh yeah, obviously the NRL sats are 10 times better than anything else on the Net.

Well, I have a bunch of images that I needed to cover from yesterday night... I have been trying to access them thru the 30-image loop thing to get them but can't. Oh well. :( Probably better for me to save some bandwidth for GHCC.

Well, as predicted, the "Cannot find server" messages are back. Thankfully I did crack IDV, so I'll be using that.

Actually, no, I did not crack IDV.

Still uses up 100% memory, causing computer to run slowly or not run at all for 5 minutes after I close it.

Archiving 5 satellite images on GHCC takes about a minute; on IDV, at least 10. File sizes are also 5 times bigger.

Please come back, GHCC. :cheesy:

Okay, now I will risk sounding stupid because I don't have the slightest idea of what your are talking about. What is GHCC? What is IDV? And what do you mean that you cracked it?

Sorry, I should've specified some stuff.

IDV is integrated data viewer. See http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/ and go to "DisplayAnalysis", IDV is the third one. It has really good data, but I need 1GB RAM to do it, and I just don't have that much.

GHCC is down. Here is the URL: http://www.ghcc.msfc.nasa.gov/GOES/goeseasthurr.html

BTW, my post was not a sympathy post, for the record. I just like to talk to myself on forums.

Well, you were doing a pretty good job there of talking to yourself, so I just jumped right in there and helped out. :)
