May all those that lost their lives rest in peace and their family's have peace also.
She also killed more people on August 29th, 2005 than she did back in 1969 with Katrina!

Re: 38th Anniversary of Hurricane Camille today
Ahhhh, Camille...the lady who was no lady at all. I can only imagine what it must have been like that August night in 1969. A horrific storm striking at night! Imagine how horrible it would have been had Katrina struck at night!
MsRobi, you are correct. Camille killed more people on Aug. 29, 2005 than she did in 1969. I certainly hope everyone learned not to base their decisions on what happened during a past storm. I know I have learned!

Re: 38th Anniversary of Hurricane Camille today
I was thinking about this today. August 17th. I never thought I'd live to see a hurricane comparable to Camille, even though you logically know it could possibly happen in any given year.
As Satayana once said, "Those who do not remember history are condemned to repeat it." I shall never understand the arrogance/ignorance of human beings. When something as monstrous as Camille or Katrina heads for you, you must get out of the way. You have to find safe shelter.
Here's hoping that people along the coastline are a little bit wiser when it comes to dealing with hurricanes. It's the best way to honor the memory of those who died in Hurricane Camille.

You and me both!!! Funny how this particular date now seems to pale in comparison to 08/29/05. Even here on S2K, she gets little discussion on her anniversary...
I was 12 when Camille hit and I spent my entire teenage years and most of my adult years - at least until 2005 - thinking I'd never see another one like that hit my hometown. Boy was I (and so many others) wrong!!!
Still, I woke up this morning - just like I have on every August 17th for the past 37 years - and immediately recalled what me and my family went through on this same day in 1969. No doubt, many things stick in one's mind throughout their lives, but I believe that experiencing extremes in weather (like Camille and Katrina) have to be at the top of the list of memorable events.
Even today - at 50 years old
