For reference - list of Cat 5 landfalls in the last 30 years

The last few Cat 5 landfalls in the past 30 years, in the Northern Hemisphere, that were not on small islands (Taiwan and Hispaniola are islands but they're big enough), I think are

STY Cimaron 2006 (WPAC - Luzon, Philippines)
STY Bilis 2000 (WPAC - Taiwan)
Cyclone 5 1999 (NIND - east coast of India)
STY #18/Zeb 1998 (WPAC - Luzon, Philippines)
STY #29/Angela 1995 (WPAC - Luzon, Philippines)
Hurricane Andrew 1992 (ATL - Florida)
Bangladesh Cyclone/Cyclone 2 1991 (NIND - Bangladesh)
STY #8 1989 (WPAC - Luzon, Philippines)
STY #30 1989 (WPAC - Luzon, Philippines)
STY #32 1989 (originated in WPAC, landfall in NIND - east coast of India)
Hurricane Gilbert 1988 (ATL - Yucatan Peninsula)
Hurricane David 1979 (ATL - Dominican Republic)
Hurricane Anita 1977 (ATL - mainland Mexico)

i didnt realize luzon had been stuck 5 times by a cat 5 in 20 yrs..
