boring

#1 Postby weatherwoman » Wed Aug 22, 2007 8:16 am

i have to say this year is really turning out to be boring i so hope things pick up soon, dean was fun to watch but im ready for a long east coaster to track where they say florida sc nc back to florida and then a slight run up the east coast keeps everyone in suspense. weather and news meada all alone the coast areas thats fun running to the stores putting up yard stuff, watching every move thats what i call exciting. a treat with adventure and excitment but without the pain and heartache a day off work hi waves deserted beaches, i live 7 miles inland and can get there in 15 minutes, its so fun meeting the media and talking with them as they are out reporting to the world, have any of you guys done that i met Jim Cantori here at our beach back during dennis he was so nice and excited about his job

If it were a perfect world, we could sit and watch Cat 5's parallel the east coast by 300 miles and wave as they go by, but, in reality, it'd be a very bad situation...

The hard truth is that, without God's intervention (you can bet millions were praying over the past week), Dean could have just as easily moved across the Houston area - with devastating results.

It's not a stretch of the imagination to know that if this had happened on - Monday morning (I had to look at the calendar) - the Houston area would be a mass of death and suffering at this hour, so, boring weather, while boring, is always nice, and, better than the alternative...

Frank

P.S. We can only see what happened to those hurt by Erin's flooding rains to know what that's really like...

P.P.S. Funny I should be talking about this, because, it was 15 years ago this afternoon that I heard the late Dr. Bob Burpee comment that perhaps Hurricane Andrew might head northwestward, away from Miami. On hearing that, I (being young and more foolish than I am today), complained, "Aww - I just want to have fun!"

A really dumb statement - considering that my house was less than 48 hours away from being destroyed...

I'm basically going to leave this topic alone as to my true feelings of someone writing this......but as a victim/survivor of Hurricane Katrina (I lost everything) ... trust me when I say boring is a good thing....a real good thing.

I was stationed in New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina, it wasn't fun, there wasn't any adventure, the media criticized our every move. While a storm can be interesting to watch and learn about the pain, suffering, and death associated far outweighs any hopes of landfall.

And yes I lost everything in Katrina and friends of mine lost loved ones.

The U.S. got pretty lucky with Dean. The chances of a storm developing where Dean developing and tracking all the way west into Mexico are low.

Just remember that a week or two before all we saw was EC troughiness then magically a storm develops when the troughiness goes away.

unbelievable how we dodged a bullet here.

And the season is just really getting going. Be careful what you wish for. I think we all like the excitement but to say this season turned out to be a bore is wrong as the season is just picking up. And all that excitement turns in to heart ache real quick knowing that people affected by the storms are loosing life and property.

Boring? Really? Cat 5 landfalls don't interest you? This year is already more interesting than all of 2006 put together. We haven't seen a long-lived major hurricane in August like this since 1980 maybe. This year isn't 2005, but it sure isn't boring.

Boring!

Wow in my honest opinion i hope this will one of the most boring seasons ever as we had enough the past couple of seasons.I lost everthing during hurricane andrew from my dogs to my entire house and to be honest once you go through something like that you never forget it.Material things can be replaced but life cant be.There are still folks to this day trying to get there lives back together along the gulf coast after katrina and hopefully this season will spare the U.S. once again from any devastation.Adrian

PS!My prayers go out to those folks in the path of dean.

Boring???

We just watched the third most powerful Atlantic landfaller devastate Yucatan. "Boring"?

After being hit by Charley I'm now no longer interested in experiencing hurricanes directly. The aftermath is nothing but headaches and high expenses.

I see you live in NC. It seems you want a storm to come in your general direction - you mentioned FL SC and NC - so you can have the excitement of watching and wondering what might happen. For those of us in Texas, Dean was very exciting to watch, as for awhile we thought he was coming in our direction. Some of us did double check our hurricane supplies and make a run to the stores. Plywood was flying off the shelves of the local Home Depots and Lowes. Local government officials did meet to discuss evacuation strategies, etc. Why is this boring to you? Because it didn't happen in your back yard? Isn't that a rather narrow viewpoint?

If you live only seven miles inland, you are definitely in a danger zone should a strong hurricane hit your area directly. I hope it doesn't happen to you.

Apart from Dean its been a pretty queit season so far, though I suppose thats nothing too complain about.
However Dean was/is pretty amazing to watch and fairly long lived, its been with us since the 13th and it went from a cape verde tropical depression to a landfalling cat-5 and to watch Dean evolve was really interesting to watch and at times it was a stunning looking hurricane, plus lest us forget Dean is the 9th strongest hurricane ever and is up there with some mighty beasts from the past and in its own rights will therefore regarded as a legendary hurricane, esp given it made landfall as a category 5 hurricane, those as we all know are ultra rare beasts indeed.

There is no question the 2005 season was interesting because you had one punch after the other. But that's not how the tropics work. Now after Dean we may get a week of no activity and then another week of tropical activity and so one so forth until the end of the season.

and another thing we are learning is that if you see a blob in the Atlantic the chances are it will not develop for one reason or another. In 2005, alot of blobs did develop but that was a special season. I personally have gone out on a limb with a few blobs like invest 92L that never happened. If you keep guessing it won't develop, chances are you will be right.

I would definately not say that things have been boring but it's evident now that Dean is almost done we probably won't have a storm until at least next week. In reality, my area only has about 6 more weeks of the season where we have a real hurricane threat, after that it's very rare to have a storm. So far so good...

After posting earlier, and, letting things gel in my mind (what's left of it - haw) - this thread should either be locked or deleted, if for nothing else, the folly of the topic.

As my late Dad would say - he being a World War II Veteran - only in this country does a person "complain" because things are going right!

We live in a powder keg of a world - please don't tell us that you're "bored" because a disaster did not happen!!!

Of course, my late sister would tell me to give this person the benefit of the doubt, that they probably did not mean it in a malicious or intentional sense, but, it does get under my skin when I hear someone say this - perhaps because, as mentioned earlier, I said the same foolish thing 15 years ago today - only to have my "boring" life turned upside down in the many months (and years) following Andrew, so, as a few Katrina victims also mentioned here - we have found, by terrible suffering and loss, that "boring" (also referred to as normal and peaceful) is the right thing to hope for...

If you're bored and looking for hurricane related excitement come on down here to the Gulf Coast and do some volunteering. Plenty of heartache, depression and homeless hurricane related excitement down here! :x
