When was the last time La Nina started late into the hurricane season and was the late season busy?

I'm not seeing this. So far the SW Caribbean is weak as far as wave activity.

There has been too much hype on tv, radio, and in the newspapers regarding storms that never materialized. I'm afraid that their "crying wolf" may cause problems if/when a real storm threatens.

The 2005 season, the most active month was actually October.

Seems the tropical season has been dominated by shear, which is no bulletin to everyone here. Everything in the Caribbean has been Westbound. IMO the trend is our friend. See no reason to believe a major cane will impact the conus this season.

I don't see anything to change the pattern honestly. I won't completely rule it out, but the chance of the CONUS getting a major hurricane looks very small IMO. This has been the year of the shear and the year of the Mexico storms. October may very well be active(look at September), but all but two storms(which were 1-day landfalling hurricanes) were weak and/or fish.

I like what people are saying here. They recognize the frail nature of the season to date (Dean and Felix excluded) but do not rule out the possibility of something nasty coming along and ruining the party. Tis good to see people have some sense...no panic but not writing off the season either.

Re: Busy October according to Palm Beach Post
Gotta sell them papers. Nothing better than another "the sky is falling" headline. With the shear that has dominated the basin since September I doubt anything big comes out of the NW Carb Sea this season......MGC

They want a Cat. 5 hitting the CONUS somewhere at most or a another Allison 2001 at least...
Yellow journalism...

We all should be on guard 24/7......

Re: Busy October according to Palm Beach Post
I did not find this story to be over the top or sensationalizing. The majority of the population doesn't follow the tropics to the extent of some of most of the people on this forum. They think the season's over. I was surprised by several of my co-workers when in September they thought hurricane season was done. I think the purpose of the article was to reinform people of the full scope of the season. I remember a lot of us were caught off guard with Wilma, and thats including people on this forum. I went to sleep thinking Wilma was no threat to Fl. and woke up to a stronger storm and it was heading our way.
