When will invest 90L be declared?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

When will invest 90L be declared?

#1 Postby Category 5 » Tue Jan 01, 2008 12:17 am

To open the year, I thought I'd start with a joke/game. Whoever guesses closest to when Invest90L wins a prize.

The guess must include

Month, Date, Time (UTC)

Bonus points for location.

Alright! Here we go.

May 21st, 1800UTC

I'll say, 400 miles off the east coast.

Wait, we should have a deadline so people don't guess like an hour before a storm is classified INVEST. I'd say, March 15, when the 2008 Predictions take place?

I'll trump all of that and suggest that 90Q will form east of Brazil in February, around Valentine's Day.

Yurpian model seems to be suggesting a sub-tropical system may try to form in 8 or 9 days South of Bermuda, but it doesn't close off a surface low.

I'm sticking with June.

Heh, JB is on that sub-tropical cyclone kick now but I had him beat by several days. I still say that will not be declared an invest. But I reserve the right to change my mind.

6) Subtropical cyclone may develop north of Puerto Rico this weekend and move west for a while.

There is a nice low level swirl in there...

I'm going to have to say around May 10th, probably early in the afternoon (in EST), somewhere several hundred miles away from Florida and close to Puerto Rico, probably a couple hundred Northwest. It should make landfall on the island of Vague and dissipate into a category 14 air mass thunderstorm thereafter. *

We usually have at least one invest in May. Late April seems a bit early.

*Everything before the last sentence was serious.

Invest 90L will be declared on April 1st. Storm2k users who are accustomed to all the phony storms and other shenanigans that take place on that day will find themselves saying "LOL, good one" to a real disturbance.

That would be mighty crazy, but when they see it the next day those people if this happens would go "oops, I guess we were wrong"

June 10th seems kind of late for a very active season ahead.

June 10th seems kind of late for a very active season ahead.

2004's first TC didn't develop until August. That season featured 15 NS, 9 hurricanes, and 6 intense hurricanes.

Many La Nina seasons with >13 NS didn't ramp up until late August.
