Any news on the AFRH (Armed Forces Retirement Home)?

Or where, if anywhere they put all the vets that lived there (It was near the Gulfport Navy base)? My friends father lives there, and I'm reasonably sure I saw it on the WLBT "Mississippi Gulf Coast Damage from Skycopter 3" video. Its quick, and the pilot says "And I think thats the veterans home that...." and he sort of trailed off. She's heard nothing from anyone and most of her family lives in MS in various places. It doesn't look too promising.

I think that was the place Jim Cantore rode out the storm... if so, I know the structure survived, but I'm pretty sure it had water damage... although, I think everyone inside was OK.

Yes that was where Cantore reported from. I've wondered also how it held up. Cantore kept saying it was like a fort, it was so well built.

It was built to withstand 30' storm surge. I guess they had to move everyone to the second level and water still reached them. Thats why Cantore reported a 37' surge.

I heard Canore report that the Seavees did a geat job of getting all the residents out and transferred to the other home in washington. He said 100% were fine...no injuries, no problems. Hope this helps.

Actually, they're called Seabees. The Sun Herald has a town-by-town accounting in MS and says that the retirement home's 1st floor is flooded.
