We should not expect anything and will be laughed at if we ask.

No matter how much we have done for others, the love just won't happen here.

Middle East?

That's easy...It's control by fat rich monarchs and CEOs who don't give a --- about anyone else...Chavez is a populist, a socialist, and a democrat who will not allow people to suffer for the sake of his political differences with their governments.

Chavez also has something that no American, Chinese, or Russian leaders currently have: Popular support via free and fair elections.

There will be a group of countries that offer to assist us: Australia, UK, Japan, Israel, eastern European countries, quite a few others.

The rest won't give a dime. That's just the way it is, and considering the current attitudes in those countries, I wouldn't want their assistance.

And regarding a hit on the economy? Actually it's extremely unlikely to happen. The economic activity generated by relief and reconstruction is absolutely proven to generate more benefit to the economy than the damage caused by the destruction.

OMG..........

Chaves won a free and fair election and has the support of 70% of the Venezuelan public. I would greatly appreciate any assistance he could provide in our time of need!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oil from Chavez

#25 Postby TeeBird » Tue Aug 30, 2005 7:00 pm

Chavez has a deal with Jesse Jackson to donate a small amount of heating oil through a Citgo refinery for poor people. This was decided well before Katrina was a threat.

As if the U.S. doesn't have enough food, bottled water, emergency plans, national guard troops, coast guard units, FEMA teams, deputies, police, search and rescue teams, canine units, volunteers donating money, and red cross centers to handle the problem.

People, Chavez was purposefully feinting help, and he was being condescending. Geez, see it for what it is.

He also offered last week free eye exams for U.S. citizens! True story, google it. He's ludicrous...doing what he can to make us look foolish.

Somebody is offering services and you worried about looking foolish. By your logic no foreign country should send aid. I'm done arguing with you.

Found this on another board:

"Lousianana's governor was just asked this question on Larry King Live. She said offers of help have come in from all over the world. The Red Cross/Red Crescent organizations in other countries are also offering aid."

International aid does come to the US, and will reach the Gulf coast.

Canada has offered help through both Homeland Security and Department of Health and Human Services. Also as in past years with large Florida hurricanes, there is most likely a large convoy of Ontario Hydro repair trucks already in transit.

Yes Canada offered help immediately after the storm. As far as I know
the US still has not taken us up on it.

Do you think politican differences stand above humanitarian concerns? I think this is the worst moment to inflate fake pride and nationalism. I hope the people affected by the storm get all the aid they can, I don't care from whom.
