It is hard to believe with Katrina's pressure that she was only a cat 4.I think she was a cat 5 at landfall :(

I really wonder if Camille's winds were that high, and if the 1935 winds were that low. Seems to me like they should be the reverse.

We were discussing this today as well... speculating that like Andrew, Katrina would be upgraded to a 5 before all was said and done.


Neither here nor there really though... 4, 5... she's still the most damaging hurricane to hit the states in a very long time. Hopefully, it will be that long before another one this bad hits again.

Smaller hurricanes tend to have higher pressures. (That's why Emily was close to a Cat 5 yet had pressure of 929 mb)

Larger hurricanes tend to have lower pressures. (That's why Gilbert was 888 mb but was not the strongest hurricane in terms of wind)
