In other local recovery efforts:

· Hospitals, including the Santa Rosa Medical Center, Sacred Heart and the Naval Hospital, sent supplies and personnel to New Orleans, Biloxi, Gulfport, Miss., and Mobile.

Baptist Hospital's LifeFlight helicopter and Sacred Heart's AirHeart 2 were sent to evacuate patients from Tulane University Hospital in New Orleans. At least 12 of those patients were sent to West Florida Hospital.

Naval Hospital corpsmen also conducted search and rescue operations in Gulfport immediately after the storm.

· Several law-enforcement agencies -- including the Escambia and Santa Rosa sheriff's offices, Pensacola and Gulf Breeze police departments, Escambia County's Fire and Rescue and Emergency Medical Services -- sent personnel and equipment to Mississippi.

· Pensacola Regional Airport is providing aid to the Gulfport/Biloxi Regional Airport.

· Gulf Power Co. is expected to send 200 employees to Mississippi today to help with power restoration.

That is good to hear...particularly in light of the nurse we just heard from one of the hospitals. They are about at the breaking point of being able to provide for the patients and are becoming victims themselves due to the conditions.
