Question for NO residents

#1 Postby timNms » Fri May 19, 2006 9:41 pm

About 3 weeks ago my brother and I were at the funeral home to order a stone for my mom's grave. The funeral director said he had a friend who was in the funeral business that had recently made a trip to New Orleans. He said a funeral director in NO told him that people were having to wait as long as 2 to 3 weeks to have funeral services for their loved ones, even at this late date. He also said they were still holding bodies of those who perished in the storm, awaiting identification.

Is there any truth to this?

I had a friend who moved from the NO area up to Lafayette after Katrina. She was found dead in her condo in March but her funeral was in NO the same week she died.

My landlord passed away last week... funeral was yesterday... maybe this is a problem in the city proper...dunno; but in the surrounding areas at least THAT aspect of business is going on as usual...although the "Parlor" was an old office building as the main Lakelawn funeral parlor is being renovated since the flooding.

No, I have a distant aunt who died a few weeks back. Her funeral was a few days later... in the city. Sounds like there's no truth to it. Sorry about your loss, timNms.

It's not occurring now, but earlier in the year and late last year, there were some having to wait several weeks because of the amount of bodies found, some funeral homes were being used as temporary morgues.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure when the guy's trip was to NO. Could have been earlier in the year, but he talked like it was recently.
