Hurricane Stress

#1 Postby beachbum_al » Wed May 31, 2006 8:01 am

I keep hearing about it in the news. I keep hearing about hurricane preparedness which I do agree with. After last year and having so many close calls to my area I am scared to death the big one is going hit Mobile. Yes, Ivan was bad but honestly we were actually blessed because it jogged a little to the the right at the last minute and kept it from going into the Mobile Bay. Then there was Hurricane Dennis...another story. Governor Riley calling and telling everyone in Baldwin County and Mobile County to get out. I do agree with him because it could had been bad. Dennis also turned to the right and went toward to Florida. Dennis also weakened too. Which was a blessing because it hit my sister who was hit by Ivan too. Yes, she lives in the Pensacola area.

I have a big fear. I have a big fear that this year we will not be as lucky. I keep thinking about what Katrina did to La and MS and AL. I keep thinking of my area which was at least 150 miles from where she hit.

I worry about my girls. I don't want them to live in fear because one of the greatest memories I have as a child is growing up along the coast. That is why I came back to raise my children here. Yes, I did go through Frederic in 79 and remember it well but I don't remember having to fear storms every year. And here I am complaining and there are people on this board that have lost everything and love ones due to Katrina, Rita, and other storms. I feel guilty and scare.

Do not fear hurricanes, respect them. It is normal for a parent to worry about their children. My sons are all adults but I still worry about them. Living on the coast does put you at risk, but since the quality of life is so wonderful down here I personally think the risk is worth it. The good thing about hurricanes is that you have ample time to run from them.......MGC
