People will be leaving by the droves when they see the words "STRONGEST HURRICANE EVER". Although it will weaken it will still be bad here.

When I woke up this morning even before checking the hurricane I noticed how calm and still it was outside. Felt very wrong. Sure enough theres an 884 mb hurricane out there, coming this way.

If the NHC track verifies, Palm Beach County is going to get absolutely nailed. MUCH Worse than Frances, Jeanne, and Katrina.

Brent, I find there is some complacency here due to the fact it is approaching from the SW instead of the Atlantic.

Yeah, and we all know that we can't be hit from the SW, by a major hurricane, in October or November. I swear people always think the season is over...they have no knowledge of history.

We over-hype hurricanes approaching from the east in August and September, and under-hype them approaching from the south or west in October and November. This is a *classic* major October storm. It's straight out of those old Unisys historical hurricane tracks.

Looking at the information on Wilma this morning has almost seemed unreal. I sit here in Palm Beach County with so many thoughts in my head, wondering and waiting to see if things change. I pray for anyone on the West Coast that will be affected by this storm, with the thoughts that it will not come in as a 5 and hopefully considerably less. If the current track holds true I also wonder is it to early to start to go to the store, gas station, propane tanks and whatever else needs to be done. People in my area tend to freak about this time and before you know it everything is gone off the shelves and the pumps are empty. Is today a good day to start to prepare as if Palm Beach County is going to be affected with Hurricane strength winds. This is not meant to be a stupid question, I am just not exactally sure when to start the steps. Thanks in advance for any comments.

Today is a perfect day to start. Think of it this way. What do you gain by waiting? Or on the flip side, what do you have to lose?

Visitor Evacuation ordered in Florida Keys

Hurricane Wilma Advisory No. I: Monroe County Emergency Management Officials have ordered all visitors and non-residents to begin leaving the Keys at noon today as powerful Hurricane Wilma continues on a forecast track that may bring it very close to the Florida Keys Saturday, according to forecasters at the National Hurricane Center.

Emergency Management officials decided to move up the timetable for emergency actions because of the increased intensity of the storm, which is now a category five.

All visitors and non residents must leave the Keys starting at noon today. Also, all state parks will be closed, residents and non-residents in recreational vehicles and high profile vehicles are also ordered to leave. Tolls on the Card Sound bridge will be suspended

A local state of emergency has been declared by county officials.

Given the current forecast track, tropical storm force winds (39 miles per hour and more) are expected to begin to impact the Keys late Friday night or early Saturday morning.

Further emergency actions will be announced later today by County Emergency Management Officials

I just got back from one of the gas stations here in Jupiter. It was pretty well packed w/ cars and alot of chatter. I was surprised that they didnt put a cap on gas (like 50.00). so I did very well :)

Pembroke Pines here....I think that the only saving grace is that it is forecasted to weaken somewhat before making landfall..... but man I hope there isn't mayhem here in south florida....I hope that people heed the warnings....get prepared and do a lot of praying not panicking....it's going to be a wild ride no matter where the eye makes landfall because of the angle and the size of the storm....we need to be here for each other...
