Report from Perdido Key, FL on FL/AL state line

#1 Postby Courtnay Mccullers » Wed Aug 31, 2005 10:41 am

Evidently there was minimal coastal flooding due to the surge from Katrina.

A dune that existed ranged in height from 6-11 feet to protect most of the gulf front condos and homes in the Orange Beach, AL and Perdido Key, FL.

While in most places the dune is completely gone and the beach is once again completely flat, the dune appears to have done its job in most cases.

Most condominums have escaped any significant further damage to their lobbies and pools and things of the like. Some have small amounts of sand in their pools... others have sustained damage to their landscaping... but all in all... the report from Perdido Key is that Katrina, though a bigger nuisance than Dennis, seems to have only set back the recovery timeline from Ivan "minimally"... though since we are a year after Ivan, when I say minimal... it could very well mean a few weeks of extra cleanup.

But in the whole scheme of things, Perdido Key seems to have dodged a bullet.

Orange Beach looks okay too! My inlaws have a place at Summer Breeze near the bridge and looks okay!

There is still a boil water notice for Perdido though but the notice has been lifted for Pensacola Beach.

My soon-to-be-sister-in-law's family has a condo on perdido key. It was destroyed in Ivan and rebuilt since. It's basement was flooded with Katrina, but it's still standing.
