So, on those second pictures... Is the water moving into the city, or out? It looks as if its moving into the river.

I beleive that is the water flowing from the parish(St. Bernard?) east of the city into the industrial canal. The eye went over that parish and it was badly flooded by the storm surge not the lake.

Grateful, I'm guessing that yours is a pretty accurate observation.

Does anyone know of a site that you can see current flooding? Google Maps has an excellent image taken B-4 Katrina, but nothing after.

The image showing both the river and the lake really gives you a good idea of how surrounded by water NO is. You hear them talk about this, but I couldn't fully picture it until now. I had no idea there were those canals running through the city also.

TriState,

The following is a very detailed PDF showing detailed New Orleans streets, neighborhoods/districts, canals, and detailed elevation for all areas. You can use the PDF Zoom feature to get down to pretty good detail.
