High-Res Post-Katrina MS Coast NOAA Imagery

#1 Postby wxman57 » Wed Aug 31, 2005 10:20 pm

Someone had posted a link with VERY high resolution NOAA satellite imagery of the Mississippi coast after Katrina passed. It's SO high resolution that not only could I find my mother's house, but I could see her friend Sue's blue Ford Expedition in the driveway and even see someone walking on the walkway leading to the front door! Well, I can't seem to locate that post on the forum any more, so I thought I'd re-post it:

And here's the picture of my mother's friend Sue's truck in the driveway:

Quite amazing. I looked down the coast and could see the damage to the Beau Rivage and Hard Rock. You can see the shadow of the guitar outside the Hard Rock.

wxman, THANK YOU for posting this link. I'm Mapquesting my aunt's address and trying to compare it to the NOAA sat imagery.

I'm pretty close to pinpointing my aunt's and cousin's homes... I'm really hoping to be able to relay something positive.

Some of those look just like the Tsumuni that hit southeast Asia. Everything is flaten to the ground or washed away.

Note that you'll need to rotate many of the photos to get them oriented properly. I found that the ones of the Mississippi coast near Gautier needed to be rotated 90 degrees clockwise.

I found homes of friends in Bay St. Louis and Pass Christian.

Total losses. :(
