Got the first call!

#1 Postby azsnowman » Thu Sep 01, 2005 6:47 pm

Don't have ALL the particulars just yet but I received a "possible" call out for my SAR Unit!! I'm making prelem. preps.......getting a house sitter lined out, taking care of making auto pay on my bills. Didn't get the FULL OK to bail just yet, just a "be ready at a moments notice!" I'll be deploying myself, my wife Michelle, 3 other members with my 3 K9's and 4 others. Sadly, this will be a Search and Recovery mission, not a rescue......I've got my Jessica (cadavor recovery dog), Michelles dog Sweetz, a tracking/trailing dog and one water cadavor recovery dog on the call out list

I have NO idea as to where the Unit will be deployed, I would guess NOLA with the water recovery dog.......we'll see.

I just HOPE they DO call us.....I mean, 5 years of HARD training could be put to GOOD use. My Unit, "Apache K9 SAR Unit, WMAT Police" has been dispatched to NUMEROUS missions over the past 5 years, a LOT of successful ones, numerous children found alive........I don't know if I'm prepared for this. Like I said, it's NOT for SURE, I would imagine "IF" this happens, it will be when some similance of order is restored, while myself and my wife are officers and trained for these kind of situations, the other members of our unit are not.

God bless you all if you do get the call to go. It will surely be a very difficult situation, but I'll say prayers for your strength and fortitude in such a situation.

Dennis - God Bless you and your unit. I'm so proud of you. Keep in touch, please. So we know you're okay.....

I wish you well.....you were saying you felt guilty being at home. And now you get a chance to help out.

Good Luck and stay safe. I can only imagine how emotional this is for you but think about the fact that you are giving their love ones answers that they need.

Dennis,

Good luck to your whole crew and be safe!! My husbands AF Reserve C-130 search and rescue unit is already on the job...they usually refuel the pavehawks but are ferrying in supplies while the pavehawks do rescue work. He will spend 3 days next week doing his tour. You are ALL making a difference in peoples lives. You and all the rescue/recovery people are in our prayers, we know the difference you make!

Got the "OFFICAL" call today, it won't be until at LEAST 10 October, maybe 15 October before we can go due to the civil unrest, contaminated water etc. I have NO PROBLEM with the civil unrest, I mean, that's why I'm in Law Enforcement, my wife and I TRAIN for these situations. SO....with THAT said, I'll just sit by the phone, PRAY for the best.

Dennis

Thank you so much for whatever you do. Just know that the people in Mississippi and Louisiana appreciate every thing that is being done for us. They are still finding bodies here in Pascagoula/Jackson County today and I am sure there are still plenty in the rubble that can't yet be reached in our county. Be careful if you go to LA.

And ya'll please don't think everything you see on TV is how everyone is acting down here because its not true. We are banding together and we will make it thru this with the help of the many many good folks in the USA and all your prayers. What little TV I have seen while at the EOC and the B.E.R.T. command station at the SO makes me ashamed to say they are part of the south! Hardly anybody was really prepaired for this but if you live in the south you should have your hurricane supplies packed and ready to go, just as you do up north for snow storms. You know it might happen so you get prepared.

The thing is Mary, I truly believe that MOST people realize that it's only a few that are creating the bad publicity. We know that you are all suffering down there and understand how the desparation will make you do things to survive - but not at the expense of other people. I'm so happy to see that help is finally arriving.

As for YOU Dennis, as I said in another thread, you and your "team" would be the first that I'd pick to go out and help out.
