One idea for recovery

#1 Postby StrongWind » Fri Sep 02, 2005 8:44 am

I bet a substantial part of this will be uninsured as it will require having had flood insurance.

Since rebuilding will then be subsidized by taxpayers (HUD, FEMA,...) rather than do this piece-meal one house at a time, recovery should be economized. Give people a chance to salvage what they can and then burn/bulldoze entire sections. In the meantime, since we're going to have several hundred-thousand people out of work - start training them in basic carpentry, brick laying, painting, etc. Then start a rebuilding effort modeled on 'Habitat for Humanity' but on a massive scale.

better yet just build EVERYTHING on 15ft PILINGS!

That right there would make MORE sence......

the Habitat for Humanity thing makes sence too though. Hell you figure EVERYONE in the city is no unemployeed and has nothing better to do with their time..

well the pilings make sence since it will EVENTUALLY flood again spend the extra money now during the rebuilding phase so you dont have to worry about it later...

or

evelate the WHOLE CITY! Everything goes 20-30 feet in the air....one big concrete slab! Get rid of the leveys and fill with water under the city....

huh? huh? WATER WORLD!
