Questions

#1 Postby wxmann_91 » Sun Sep 04, 2005 12:18 am

a) Where are the GR Level 3 radar images of Katrina that jshlitz posted?

b) Does anybody have that link with the amazing storm surge video from Biloxi shot by a storm chaser (I think Jim Edds)?

Thanks for any replies.

FWIW, if you download GRLevel2, you can get even better radar images straight from the government (I can point you to this stuff if you can't find it, but I think GRLevel2's forums goes over how this is done). The files are huge, though -- downloading a whole day's worth of radar would more than fill a CDROM.

I've a question, I've downloaded GRLevel2 and I've been looking for raw radar data, but I don't know how much they cost.

I know that Allisonhouse has it but I know they cost $$$. I've been to NCDC's site and they don't say if it costs anything. (it says its free but when I try to get the data from the NCDC NEXRAD Data Inventory they ask if I wanted to "order" it)

I've downloaded a tar file from MOB site during Katrina (from NCDC) and I don't know how to use/untar it.

Somebody help me!!!

I'm not sure how to use it, but as far as the tar file, winzip should be able to open that just fine.

Well I've given up after 2 hours of downloading radar data and still having not able to untar/use them. Man, with cable I could definately download these much faster.

Anybody here use GRLevel2????????????????

Why did I have to embark on this project and waste half of my day on it??????????????

It's free. You get it from here. You untar it with WinZip, which you can get here.

Thanks Windy. I'll try it again and can this data be used on GRLevel2? I should've asked this question before downloading and loosing my temper.

And this time I'll select "untar". :) How dumb of me.

Darn it still doesn't work.

When I download it it's still a zipped file, and I can't unzip it, because this is what is says:

Please enter the full name of the file contained within the archive 6500MOB20050830_144955.Z. For example, if the contents is a DOC file, a recommended filename is 6500MOB20050830_144955.DOC.

 :grr: :x

EDIT: Never mind there is no need to unzip it. How dumb of me!!!

It works now. I'll be posting a few radar images soon if I can.

Thanks to everyone who helped me. (even if it doesn't have anything to do with the original questions I posted)

Never mind to my second question the video was not from Jim Edds it was from Mike Theiss, and on his site he said he would be posting it in a few days, will be looking forward to that. :D
