I work at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville. We have been on alert status fo the past 48 hours. We had 3 military transport planes full of patients over the past 24 hours land in Nashville. Vanderbilt University Hospital (the adult hospital) and Vanderbilt Children's Hospital received many of the patients on those planes, and probably all of the children on those planes.
I can't tell you exactly how many children were processed through the ER at the children's hospital, but it was a bunch. And guess what...not a single one of them had to be admitted. We checked them all out, treated for dehydration mostly, gave them shots/meds, and discharged them. The adult hospital did have to admit quite a few patients, unfortunately.
I received an email a little while ago informing all staff members we could stand down from alert status, and we were expecting no more inbound flights for the time being.
So, good news about the kids. And hopeful news about not expecting any more outbound flights for the time being. Sounds like things are starting to fall into place a bit regarding the medical evacs.
Some hopeful news
